We are very excited to host the 3rd Annual ADC Ladies Hunt!
For all active ADC members who want to experience an immersive day afield chasing feathers, this is THE event for YOU. We welcome shooters of all abilities, especially beginners. The day is packed full of shooting, habitat and conservation conversations, great dog work and excellent food and drink.
Ladies, have you been wanting to try upland hunting? Not sure about all of the etiquette? Tried it before but definitely want to drop more birds than the last time? This is your chance to experience upland hunting with other like-minded women, as well as an all female staff. Every attendee will learn proper gun mount and stance, tips and techniques to hit more birds, parlances of the field, firearm safety afield, habitat and conservation and current status of upland birds in Virginia, upland gear review and hunting with pointers and flushers.
Kate Ahnstrom, owner of Virginia Shooting Sports will guide you through this unique adventure in a safe and engaging environment. She will make certain you are comfortable in the hunt field over dogs and show you the best way to add birds to your bag. Sharon Townley, hunter education instructor, noted bird dog trainer and AKC competitor will provide a bird dog demo, take you through an upland gear breakdown and answer any questions you may have regarding working dogs. You will also have the opportunity to meet Jane Kauder, owner of Orapax Hunting Preserve and avid outdoor enthusiast.
We will begin our morning with eye dominance testing and gun fittings. If you have a shotgun, please bring it otherwise, Syren Shotguns will be available to demo throughout the day. Kate and Sharon will lead you through all of the key components during the morning breakout sessions before coming back together for a boxed lunch. Then we’re headed to the hunt! Your hunt will include quail, chukar and pheasant and we will be working with champion English setters and GSPs. So often we hear people love bird hunting because of the amazing dog work and you are definitely in for a great show! After the hunt, you’ll learn how to clean your birds and prepare them for transport. Finally, it’s time to relax by the over-sized fire pit with a plate full of scrumptious wild game fare and a well deserved cocktail.
Includes: professional wing-shooting lesson, eye and ear protection, clays, gun hire, bird vest rental, upland gear review, habitat and conservation education, bird dog demo, boxed lunch, professional guides with bird dogs, in-field coaching, snacks, lots of pictures of the day, bird cleaning, post hunt social, swag bag and raffles!
